People use mobile phones and Internet daily to communicate.
But when natural calamities strike and all forms of communications
come to a halt how else can one communicate especailly to call for help?

Well, in comes the amateur radio, or better known as Ham Radio.
Ham radio is a wireless form of communication using radio signals.
And through Hamfest 2012, visitors were shown on
how amateur radio is used for search and rescue operations
as well as interacting among enthusiasts.

But operators must have a licence to operate the radio.
In Malaysia, there are only 10,000 ham radio licence holders
compared to almost a million in Japan. Hamfest 2012 was held
at Taman Metropolitan Batu on Jalan Ipoh for two days.
